Proven as an effective means of treating all kinds of pain, acupuncture can be a safe and natural alternative or addition to Western medical treatment.  It can reduce both pain and swelling and is successful in treating pain no matter where it is in the body and whether it is acute or chronic, severe or dull.  If you have an old injury that never properly healed, a new injury, a recent surgery, joint pain or muscle tension, acupuncture can help.  It increases the circulation of blood and other important fluids, bringing nutrients and oxygen to the area of pain or tension, stimulates nerve activity, and relaxes muscles and tendons, all leading to a reduction in both pain and inflammation.

What to Expect from Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture treatment has immediate effect, so if you arrive with pain, you leave with either noticeably less pain or no pain at all.  With each treatment, the pain, discomfort or stiffness reduces, and within a few treatments should be alleviated altogether with long-lasting and often permanent results.

Ankle Pain Treatment

Ankle strain, ankle sprain, arthritis, tendinitis and even wearing certain shoes can cause ankle pain.  In nearly all of cases of ankle pain, acupuncture can help to relieve the pain whether it is dull or severe, constant or intermittent.  Acupuncture can even help to repair old injuries and structural damage.  With each treatment, the ankle pain is reduced and can often be resolved within 2 – 6 treatments, depending on the issue.

Ankles can also be prone to swelling and whether the swelling is caused by oedema, injury, venous insufficiency and even in some cases infection, acupuncture can help. Swelling is often noticeably reduced just in the time of the treatment, and as the hours pass following the treatment, swelling should continue to diminish even more. Depending on the cause of the swollen ankle, most swelling can be brought under control within 2 – 4 treatments.  If the cause is oedema, there are systemic and underlying issues involved, and as these issues need to be addressed as well, a course of treatment is generally longer.

Foot Pain, Heel Pain and
Plantar Fasciitis Treatment

There are many tendons, bones and moving parts in the foot, so many potential causes of foot pain and heel pain.  With nearly all of these causes, acupuncture can help, whether it is Morton’s neuroma, achilles tendinitis, arthritis, bone spurs, bunions, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, peripheral neuropathy, verrucas, or policeman’s heel.  With foot pain comes inhibited walking and often altered walking, and this can ultimately lead to other issues in the legs and back.  For this reason, foot pain should ideally be addressed as soon as possible.  With acupuncture, pain is reduced with each treatment, and for many foot  and heel issues, pain can often be resolved completely within 1 – 8 treatments.

Acupuncture is also especially effective in the treatment of the most common foot issue, plantar fasciitis.  Not only is acupuncture a powerful natural treatment, but with foot pain caused by plantar fasciitis, it achieves particularly fast and often very long-term results.  The treatment involves very few needles and generally achieves a significant reduction in pain in just one treatment.  For plantar fasciitis pain to be resolved altogether, 1 – 4 treatments may be required.  For heel pain, results are also quick. Very few needles are involved, and generally only 1 – 3 treatments are needed to alleviate the pain with lasting and often permanent results.

Gout Treatment and Toe Pain Treatment

Some of the most common causes of toe pain include ingrown toenails, bunions, injuries, blisters, corns, calluses, arthritis, gout, and all of these can be successfully treated with acupuncture.  If these issues are long-standing, a course of treatment to resolve the issues may be longer, but in many cases of toe pain, the pain is largely eliminated within 2 – 6 treatments.

To relieve gout pain or gout arthritis, acupuncture can also be very effective and often times with very fast results.  Since gout involves systemic and underlying issues, in the treatment of this condition, acupuncture addresses not only the gout pain but also the contributing imbalances.  Within 4 – 8 treatments, the gout pain is generally resolved and the systemic issues are brought under control.

Efficacy of Acupuncture for Pain Relief

Currently, a significant body of evidence is being amassed on the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of pain.  In countries around the world, large, rigorously designed clinical trials are being carried out and positive conclusions are being drawn.

Listed on the NLM website (National Library of Medicine), the primary medical resource of the United States government, are reports from other trials evaluating acupuncture’s effect on specific conditions:  Plantar FasciitisHeel PainGout PainAchilles Tendinopathy, and Ankle Sprain.
