Safe and Effective Treatment for Immediate and Lasting Pain Relief
Chronic Knee Pain
Pain behind Knee Cap
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
Iliotibial Band Syndrome
Proven as an effective means of treating all kinds of pain, acupuncture can be a safe and natural alternative or addition to Western medical treatment. It can reduce both pain and swelling and is successful in treating pain no matter where it is in the body and whether it is acute or chronic, severe or dull. If you have an old injury that never properly healed, a new injury, a recent surgery, joint pain or muscle tension, acupuncture can help. It increases the circulation of blood and other important fluids, bringing nutrients and oxygen to the area of pain or tension, stimulates nerve activity, and relaxes muscles and tendons, all leading to a reduction in both pain and inflammation.
What to Expect from Acupuncture Treatment
Acupuncture treatment has immediate effect, so if you arrive with pain, you leave with either noticeably less pain or no pain at all. With each treatment, the pain, discomfort or stiffness reduces, and within a few treatments should be alleviated altogether with long-lasting and often permanent results.

Knee Pain Treatment
Acupuncture can relive all types of knee pain, whether from injury, arthritis or just wear and tear. Even if structural damage has occurred, like with ACL injury, fractures, worn cartilage, torn meniscus, knee bursitis and patellar tendonitis, acupuncture can help to repair the damage. With each treatment. there is improvement in knee pain and knee function and generally within 4 – 8 treatments, most knees can be brought to a good state of health, pain-free and working normally.
Acupuncture can also be very effective in the treatment of stiff knees. Lack of flexibility in the knees can inhibit important movements like bending down, squatting, kneeling, etc. For this reason, stiff knees can impact quality of life. Acupuncture can help to improve flexibility in the knees, making them more supple with each treatment. To determine the amount of treatment needed would depend on the degree of stiffness, but generally within 4 – 8 treatments good function and flexibility are achieved.
Hip Pain Treatment
With all types of hip pain, acupuncture can be of benefit. Acupuncture can treat osteoarthritis of the hip, helping both bone and cartilage, and it can relive tightness and pain in the muscles that operate the hip. There are muscles like the psoas and piriformis that are difficult to treat with other methods because they are deep in the body beneath other muscles, but with acupuncture these muscles can be reached and generally within 2 – 6 treatments relieved of their pain completely. The gluteus muscles of the buttock can also be difficult to treat, as hip pain when it involves these muscles can often feel elusive, where stretching and massage do not seem to address the pain. For these muscles, acupuncture also manages to relieve the pain and can generally alleviate it altogether within 2 – 6 treatments.
The hip can also suffer from stiffness, and once again acupuncture can help to relieve this stiffness, making the hip feel looser and lighter with each treatment with most hip stiffness resolved within 1 – 4 treatments. If the hip is stiff for a period of time, it can start to affect how we walk. With adjustments to our walking, other areas of our legs and back can start to hurt. It becomes a slippery slope. Even if this has happened, acupuncture can help. It relieves not only the hip stiffness but also any of the new associated pains. Long-term stiffness can generally be resolved within 4 – 8 treatments.
Iliotibial Band Syndrome Treatment
The IT band pain or Iliotibial Band Syndrome is a pain or tenderness that runs along the outside of the thigh, from the hip to the knee or at specific places on this line. This type of pain often comes from a knee injury or a hip injury but can also come from straining the IT band in normal activity. Pain in the IT band can often be difficult to treat, as it can be too tender to massage or to do other manipulative treatments. Stretching can sometimes give some relief but is often limited in its efficacy. Acupuncture, on the other hand, can effectively treat this pain without agitating the fascial tissue, with complete relief generally in 2 – 6 treatments.
Efficacy of Acupuncture for Pain Relief
Currently, a significant body of evidence is being amassed on the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of pain. In countries around the world, large, rigorously designed clinical trials are being carried out and positive conclusions are being drawn.
Listed on the NLM website (National Library of Medicine), the primary medical resource of the United States government, are reports from other trials evaluating acupuncture’s effect on specific conditions: Knee Osteoarthritis, Knee Cartilage Repair, and Hip Osteoarthritis.
