Natural Skin Care Treatment for Wrinkles, Jowls, Dark Circles and More
Cosmetic Acupuncture (also known as Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture) has a long and rich history in Traditional Chinese Medicine, dating back to the Shui Dynasty 221-256 A.D. While holding to the roots of these original theories, modern Cosmetic Acupuncture is a much more refined system, having benefited from the contributions of both Chinese and Western practitioners over the past 2,000 years.
It is a very effective cosmetic treatment that successfully reduces the signs of ageing by promoting the smooth flow blood and nutrients to and around the face. Not only does Cosmetic Acupuncture hydrate the skin, making it plumper and more supple, but it also nourishes and energises both skin and muscles, bringing about improvements in muscle tone, skin firmness and skin health.
Cosmetic Acupuncture brings long-lasting results combined with improved health in face, body and mind, making it one of the most powerful non-surgical facial treatments available, a truly effective non-surgical face lift.
Below are some of benefits that Cosmetic Acupuncture treatment offers:

Treatment for Puffiness or Dark Circles Under the Eyes
It is said that the state of our health can be seen in our complexion and in our eyes. If the body’s systems are in balance, the face’s appearance reflects this, and if they are not, the face’s appearance reflects this as well. When we get puffiness or dark circles under the eyes, for example, this indicates, from a Chinese medicine perspective, an imbalance in the kidneys. Such an imbalance can also cause other symptoms such as lower backache, tiredness, or dizziness. Since acupuncture addresses the underlying imbalances present in the body, each Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatment helps not only to correct the imbalances apparent in the face but also the symptoms associated with the imbalances in the body.
With each treatment, the area around the eyes improves as do the underlying issues in the body. The results are generally fairly immediate and long-lasting. In treating brown or black blemishes under the eyes from longterm dark circles, results can even be permanent.
To add to the experience, other very tiny needles (called intra-dermal needles) are inserted in acupuncture points around the face. This increases the flow of blood and nutrients to the whole of the face, improving all aspects of the skin, including tone, texture and health. This is a Dark Circles Treatment like no other, even followed up by a relaxing facial massage. To learn more about this treatment, read “What will a Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatment be like?” below.
Anti-Ageing Treatment | Heathy Non- Surgical Face Lift
Due to the natural process of ageing and to certain lifestyle choices, imbalances are generated in both the face and the body. Cosmetic Acupuncture functions to regulate these imbalances, leading to improvements in facial appearance as well as in the overall health of the body. This is done by inserting very fine needles into specific points on the face and body. Stimulating these points promotes the movement nutrients, blood, and other important fluids to the skin and muscles, nourishing them and rejuvenating them.
The Anti-Ageing Treatment is just like the Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatment described below but with a special emphasis on the specific area or issue you would like addressed. If for example, you would like the treatment’s focus to be on forehead wrinkles and frown lines, then read information on the Anti-Wrinkle Treatment below. If you would like to tighten sagging skin on your neck, read the section on Neck Lift, and so forth.
On the day of the treatment, just indicate which specific area you would like as your focus.
When addressing specific issues such as deep wrinkles, scars or skin discolouration, particular needling protocols are used, wherein those specific areas are directly treated. In the case of deep wrinkles, tiny needles (called intra-dermal needles) are inserted along the line of the wrinkles. These needles create tiny dermal injuries, which trigger the normal healing response within the skin, a process that naturally introduces new collagen and elastin into the wrinkle. As new collagen builds with each treatment, the wrinkles diminish both in size and depth, and the skin becomes smoother and more supple.
In this treatment, electroacupuncture (a safe and pain-free modality) is used to stimulate the some of the needles. This modality helps to greatly enhance blood flow in the area.
The Anti-Wrinkle Treatment includes all aspects of a Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatment (as described below) plus an emphasis on the specific area of wrinkles you would like treated (forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crows feet, lip/mouth wrinkles). Since the collagen cycle is 28 days, it is necessary for this amount of time to pass before an area of wrinkles can be treated again. So if you are interested in having only one area treated, like the forehead wrinkles, for example, then you would have an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment once a month. If you are interested in having more areas treated, then treatment can be more frequent.
Jowl Lift | Neck Lift | Eyelid Lift
The Jowl Lift, Neck Lift and Eyelid Lift treatments include all aspects of a Cometic Acupuncture Treatment (as described in the section below) plus an emphasis on the specific area you would like lifted.
Neck Lift – For diminishing signs of ageing in the neck. Reduces neck wrinkles. Tightens sagging skin. Increases collagen production. Smooths sun-damaged or aged skin. Reduces hyper-pigmentation. Noticeable, long-lasting results. With each treatment there is improvement, leading to a cumulative result. Recommended 4 – 8 treatments, spaced at least 2 weeks apart.
Jowl Lift – For lifting the jowls (areas of skin next to the mouth). Tightens and smooths sagging skin. Increases collagen production. Reduces pore size. Improves muscle tone. Noticeable, long-lasting results. With each treatment there is improvement, leading to a cumulative result. Recommended 3 – 6 treatments, spaced at least 4 weeks apart.
Eyelid Lift – For effectively lifting droopy eyelids non-surgically. Diminishes facial oedema. Lifts delicate eyelid skin. No recovery time needed. Noticeable, long-lasting results. With each treatment there is improvement, leading to a cumulative result. Recommended 2 – 5 treatments, spaced at least 1 week apart.
When treating sagging skin, jowls and droopy eyelids, electroacupuncture (a safe and pain-free modality) is used and to great effect, naturally and effectively tightening skin, invigorating facial muscles, lifting jowls and drooping eyelids, all with clear and long-lasting results. With the stimulation of skin and muscles, new collagen and elastin are called to the area. Even sagging skin on the neck (turkey neck) can be effectively tightened and smoothed using this modality.
Treatments are spaced based on collagen cycles and on natural healing cycles. It is possible, however, to have a Neck Lift treatment one week and a Jowl Lift the next. Just indicate at the beginning of each treatment which area you would like emphasised.
What will a Cosmetic Acupuncture Treatment be like?
It begins with a gentle exfoliating cleanse, using a Bamboo Micro Polish which leaves the skin smoother, clearer, and more supple. This is followed by the most potent part of the facial, the Cosmetic Acupuncture. Just lay back and relax while your face is deeply energised and brought to a state of healthy balance. And finally, to complete the treatment, enjoy a 15-minute facial massage which incorporates techniques from both Indian and Japanese styles of face massage. These techniques are renowned for their regenerative qualities and can help to deeply relax facial muscles and to gently stimulate the skin.
In the Anti-Ageing Treatment, the Anti-Wrinkle Treatment and sometimes the Dark Circles Treatment, electroacupuncture is used. But there is no need to worry about this modality. It is very safe and does not hurt at all. It is used to gently stimulate the needles, causing blood and fluid flow to be greatly enhanced in the area which encourages faster healing and faster results.
All needles are sterile single-use needles, and the Medik8 skin products used during treatment are professional-grade and of the highest quality.

What can be expected following treatment?
Directly following the treatment, there will be no redness or discolouration. However, very occasionally, there may be some very minor bruising. These bruises will not be painful and should quickly fade.
In terms of the effects of treatment, some effects are apparent almost immediately, while others become more apparent over time, as the skin goes through its process of rejuvenation.
How many treatments will I need?
To experience the best possible overall results, a course of 10 – 12 treatments is recommended. With each treatment, there will be noticeable improvement, but by the sixth or seventh treatment, the effects will become especially apparent. A recent report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture showed that among 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% noticed marked effects with one course of treatment.
